Daisy Lopez
San Juan De Oriente, Nicaragua, is an artisanal colony where handcrafted items are created throughout this small village. Multiple generations of families, including Daisy's mix clay by hand or foot, shape their vessels on a potters wheel, and meticulously carve their intricate designs with a simple sharp tool and finally fire the glazes to complete the process. The studios in which they are made are often three walled dirt floor shacks surrounded by the lush jungles of the cloud forest and the nearby Masaya volcano. The artistry of people like Daisy not only support families in this part of the world, but it also shows that art can be created anywhere.
